Dorset Business Angels (DBA) kicked off 2025 with their first pitch event of the year on February 3rd at the Carlton Hotel in Bournemouth, introducing an innovative new ‘Meet the Founder’ session.
This pre-event networking opportunity allowed investors to engage informally with entrepreneurs, see product demonstrations, and establish initial connections before the formal pitches began. The new format proved highly successful, with both investors and founders praising the opportunity for more meaningful interactions and a deeper understanding of the propositions. Following this positive response, DBA has committed to continuing the ‘Meet the Founder’ sessions throughout their 2025 event calendar.
The evening continued with an eagerly anticipated annual presentation from Rob Jones Head of RATHBONES Bournemouth office, who provided a comprehensive market review and shared insights into the economic outlook for 2025, a highlight that DBA members look forward to each year.
Following this engaging market overview, five innovative startups were presented to an engaged audience of local investors.

Among the five presenting companies, two standout pitches particularly captured investors’ attention:
Wearable Tech Innovation
A UK-based sports technology company presented their innovative wearable device, already gaining significant market traction. With multiple patents granted and strong industry recognition including CES and Red Dot awards, their £250k raise at a £6m valuation sparked considerable interest. The company demonstrated impressive D2C margins of 65% and established partnerships with major retailers. Their pitch received six expressions of interest from attending angels.
Healthcare Software Solution
A healthcare technology startup showcased its platform connecting patients, medical professionals, and service providers. Already demonstrating significant results with NHS pilot programs, including a 94% reduction in processing times, they sought a £400k investment at a £2.2m valuation. Their innovative approach to streamlining healthcare pathways garnered three expressions of interest from investors.
Two other pitches, while presenting interesting propositions, did not secure investor interest at this stage. A fifth venture showed promising potential but was considered too early in its development for angel investment, with investors expressing hope to see them return at a later stage.
