From elite sports technology and education to carbon removal and the circular economy, five businesses will take to the stage as DBA’s Pitch Presentation Evenings return this September.
Dorset Business Angels (DBA) will bring its investor community together at the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel on 14th September, with five businesses collectively seeking £3.6M in investment.
Marking DBA’s return to its Pitch Presentation Evenings after the summer, the event will bring founders and investors together to hear from businesses operating across a broad range of sectors and stages of growth.
Peter Eales, Managing Director of Dorset Business Angels, said:
“We have five very different businesses joining us in September, collectively seeking £3.6M. Our Pitch Presentation Evenings give investors the opportunity to hear directly from the founders, ask questions and learn more about each business and its funding round.”
Five Businesses Set to Pitch
A sports technology company, already working with England Rugby, the French Football Federation, English football clubs and a Formula 1 racing team, is seeking £2M to target opportunities in US and European football. Built on 10 years of research into biomechanics and injury prevention, its platform extracts force, load and biomechanical data from smartphone video, without sensors, markers or lab analysis.
Schools looking to manage mobile phone use without confiscating devices altogether are the target market for a software-only solution seeking £600K. Developed in response to new government rules requiring strict mobile-use controls in schools, the system blocks distracting apps, websites and cameras while keeping essential and medical apps available.
Also pitching is an AI assessment platform designed to reduce teachers’ marking workload and provide immediate student feedback. Already supporting 5,000 students across 20 schools, results from one education campus include a reported 15% increase in pupil progress and a 22% narrowing of the attainment gap. Management is seeking £300K to move from validation to scale.
Sustainability is represented by a business building the UK’s largest biochar platform, transforming waste wood into permanent carbon removal, physical biochar and renewable heat. The company reports £1.8M secured in contracts, grants and a debt facility. Its first commercial site is fully financed, with capacity already sold for the next three years. The directors are raising £500K to help scale the next four sites.
Returning to DBA following an earlier investment round is a company focused on making uniforms more affordable and sustainable for schools and businesses. Already serving more than 300 schools, the business is in discussions with four Local Authorities representing a further 2,000 schools, alongside four potential corporate partners. Management is raising a £200K bridging round through an ASA, at a discount, ahead of the institutional launch expected in April 2027.
Together, the five pitches span businesses at different stages of development, from a company returning to DBA for a further funding round to technology built on a decade of research. Each will present directly to investors on the evening, followed by the opportunity for questions.
Connecting Founders and Investors
The event welcomes DBA members, High Net Worth Individuals (HNW) and Sophisticated Investors (SI), with opportunities for investors to participate individually or collaboratively through syndicates.
Ahead of the presentations, DBA’s Meet the Founders networking session will give investors the opportunity to meet the businesses and connect with others in the investor community. The Barclays Eagle Labs Demo Directory will also be available to explore.
George Clayson of event sponsor TC Group will share some of the key financial risks facing start-ups and how financial due diligence can help identify and mitigate them.
The Dorset Business Angels Pitch Presentation Evening takes place on 14th September 2026 at the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel.
