Five promising ventures are ready to pitch on May 19th

Investors are invited to a Dorset Business Angels (DBA) pitch event showcasing five promising ventures at the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel on May 19th from 17.15, with investment opportunities ranging from £150,000 to £500,000.

The carefully curated selection of entrepreneurial companies represents diverse sectors from online gaming to data analysis, each demonstrating market validation and clear pathways to growth.

“We’re thrilled to present our May pitch event featuring five exceptional businesses with genuine growth potential,” says Don McQueen, Chairman at DBA. “After receiving such positive feedback from our February event, we’re delighted to bring back our ‘Meet the Founder’ session, allowing investors to connect personally with entrepreneurs before the formal presentations. This approach has proven valuable in building the relationships that are so crucial for successful angel investing.”

Featured Companies

  • Online Gaming: A local company founded by industry experts, creating mobile gaming apps that blend poker with sports themes. Targeting the lucrative American football market, they’ve already secured £100,000 in ‘friends and family’ funding. Their free-to-play model generates revenue through advertising and in-game purchases. They seek £450,000 to scale their ambition of becoming a global digital card game provider for sports fans.
  • Sports Nutrition Innovation: The UK’s first UPF-free endurance fuel is disrupting the sports nutrition market. Their organic, plant-based energy pouches solve digestive problems common with synthetic gels. With 43,000+ units sold, 65% year-on-year growth, and 12 world-class ambassadors, they seek £150,000 to expand their clean-eating revolution in endurance sports.
  • Digital Accessibility Technology: Making technology accessible to 12 million UK residents who struggle with digital devices. Their specialised interface for Samsung devices features simplified layouts and clear navigation, with major UK and European telecoms agreements already secured. Projecting £1.1 million+ revenue in FY 2024/25, they seek £500,000 to expand their impact on digital inclusion.
  • Big Data for Chemistry: This University of Southampton spin-out is solving a critical R&D bottleneck with AI that transforms unstructured scientific information into searchable data. Their platform helps scientists reclaim 30% of wasted search time and unlock 70% of trapped R&D knowledge. Seeking £400,000 to accelerate the development of their solution for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
  • Commercial Data Analysis: Serving nearly 200 clients, this platform unifies fragmented e-commerce data for SMEs across multiple channels, including Amazon. Seven years in development, their solution offers tiered pricing from £99 to £2,000 monthly based on client size. Approaching profitability, they seek £500,000 to enhance their AI capabilities and scale their marketing efforts.

Event format

The Dorset Business Angels event welcomes members, High Net Worth individuals (HNW), and Sophisticated Investors (SI) who are serious about investment opportunities. The format encourages both individual investment and collaborative approaches through small syndicates, allowing investors to pool their resources and expertise.

Entrepreneurs will give a 10-minute pitch presentation, followed by a 10-minute Q&A session with investors. Expressions of interest made during the evening will be shared before they leave. Investors staying for dinner will enjoy a 2-course meal with wine—an excellent opportunity to continue discussions and forge relationships with other investors.

Powerful partnerships

Dorset Business Angels continues to benefit from strong partnerships with BCP Council, TC Group, Ellis Jones, and Rathbones, formerly Investec Wealth and Investment, providing robust support for both investors and entrepreneurs. These enduring relationships, alongside event sponsors like The FSE Group, help create a strong ecosystem for investment in the region. DBA will welcome Claire Main from BCP’s Economic Development Team. Claire will talk about BCP’s economic development and investment activities.

Our Pitch Events

There are four pitch events per year, they will be held in February, May, September and November, hosted at a Bournemouth hotel.

At each pitch event, there will be 5 business presentation pitches of 10 minutes, each followed by a 10-minute Q&A, to suit all investor appetites. The Dorset Business Angels directors will select these near the event. Short summaries will be posted to our Events page and distributed via our newsletter ahead of the event. An investor debate follows each pitch presentation, held privately. In 2025, we will introduce 'Meet the Founder'. An opportunity for entrepreneurs to meet with investors and showcase their product or service during the networking session, ahead of the main pitch event.

These pitches and our other social events are ideal opportunities for networking and learning about what is new and trending in a variety of industries. If you would like to be involved you can find out more on our Investors' Membership page.

Our Next Pitch Event

Takes place on September 29th and is open to Members and High Net Worth/Sophisticated Investors from our wider community.
