Market Sector - Trade Parts Online Marketplace

An online marketplace to help tradespeople identify and buy plumbing and heating parts faster

This Company’s platform is a B2B marketplace for industrial spare parts, that helps plumbing and heating engineering firms identify and locate spare parts in seconds. No one supplier can hope to keep an inventory of all the spare parts for a particular product or system, so the task of locating a specific part becomes harder as product ranges increase. Sometimes it can take procurement teams weeks to source a spare, resulting in project delays and inflated prices.

The platform now has over 250,000 products across 3,000 stores, and customer searches are growing rapidly.  To date, all orders have been profitable with an average order value of> £75.00.

Management now seeks a further £170K to complete their current SEIS round.

Fire Detection Systems
Market Sector: Video Fire Detection Systems

Video fire detection solution protects areas that are currently impossible to cover with conventional fire detection systems.

Even with today’s advanced fire detection systems, certain buildings are deemed by the fire industry to be “unprotectable” because no reliable detection system exists. Typical examples include large indoor areas such as warehouses, and areas with a high air particle content, where traditional smoke and heat detectors are ineffective.

This Company’s system provides a rapid, reliable fire detection system for this type of environment. The Company was formed in 2012 and development work continued over the next 7 years until the product was ready to go to market.

There are now over 125 systems protecting a wide range of facilities in nine different countries. The management now seeks £700K to continue scaling up the business.

Digital book industry
Market Sector: Listen and Read Digital Book Platform

A fully integrated listen-and-read experience, at an affordable price without a subscription.

Digital books, (unlike digital news), are not good enough to keep young people engaged in books, especially for the one in five that struggle with traditional reading. In addition, any move to a digital format will go some way towards reducing the 320 million physical books that end up in landfill annually.

This Company sells audiobooks in an exclusive listen-and read format with prices starting for as little as £7.99, together with incentives that reward consumers for every five full-price titles they buy.

With 50K titles available, over 70K people in 30 countries have downloaded the Company’s app with a conversion rate of 20% of the downloads leading to a digital book purchase. Nearly half of their audience is under 35.

The management now seeks £1M to continue the expansion.

Market Sector - Repurposing Ocean Plastic Waste

Transforming the ocean’s most harmful plastics into purposeful optical products built for adventure.

Lost or discarded fishing gear at sea is the most abundant and harmful form of marine plastic pollution around the UK coastline and the Company has generated £1.9M in revenue to date converting these plastics into sunglasses and optical glasses frames.

Over 25,000 pairs have been sold worldwide through 150 physical retailers with an RRP of £45 - £110. Their marketing has shown that consumers are four times

more likely to purchase from a purpose-driven brand and 60% of UK consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable products.

Management is now seeking £600K to scale up the business.

Nautical data-capture platform
Market Sector: Capture and Share your Sailing Experiences

A free app with a mission to be the best way to keep your sailing all in one place in the form of a unique digital logbook.

Even in today’s high-tech environment, there is no way to record and share a sailing experience, other than an outdated paper logbook. This Company’s mission statement is simple – “to make sailing more accessible & easier than ever to get on the water”.

The core product is a mobile app, that allows a sailor to create a profile, log voyages and store qualifications in a digital wallet. From this information, the system then automatically generates a sailor ‘CV’.

The business model is a Freemium model, where sailors can create a profile for free, with a paid subscription available for additional features. Additional revenue streams are advertising, affiliate revenue, crew matching and data analysis packages.  A unique dataset of sailing voyages and profiles is being compiled, which already covers 82% of the world’s coastal countries.

The business is scaling rapidly with 5,000 users onboard in 12 months, no paid marketing and a 4.9/5 rating in the App Store. The first revenue models are on track to be launched by the end of 2023.

The founders now seek a further £290K to continue development and marketing. DBA already has an investment in this Company.
